The story behind the name

GiGisPetals is rooted in our second daughter’s baby nickname “GiGi,” (which began as “Baby G”). “Petals” reflects the handmade satin flowers and floral jewelry I created for her and her sisters. What started as a small Etsy shop selling those handmade floral pieces, originally made just for my girls, grew into a heartfelt jewelry brand centered on memory and connection. Every necklace, locket and piece of jewelry we make carries meaning – love, remembrance, hope and self-discovery.

When I was pregnant with our fourth child, our 3.5 year old daughter, Ellie, wanted to name her sister, “Baby Girl.” When I told Ellie we needed to give her a name other than Baby Girl, she asked if we could just call her Baby G.

We actually named this daughter, Emme, but the nickname Baby G, stuck for a few years. Our older three kids and all of their friends called Emme, “Baby G,” which eventually turned into GiGi (pronounced with two hard Gs in a row). Everyone called her GiGi for a while. Sometimes I forgot her name was actually Emme.

Around that time I was struggling with postpartum anxiety. I began making hair flowers for Emme (GiGi) and her older sister. At the suggestion of my younger sister, I opened a small Etsy shop selling the handcut and handburned satin flowers filled with handsewn pearls in the center.

Eventually, the shop transitioned to lockets filled with memories and personalized jewelry to support people in their life journeys.

Emme eventually told us her name was “Emme, not GiGi,” We transitioned to calling her Emme, but, the name GiGisPetals stuck.
